Britain will be hit by a new setback on inflation today – and experts warn that the cost of living will continue to soar.
Official figures are expected to show that the annual rate of inflation stayed above 3 per cent in December because of the rapidly rising price of essentials such as food and fuel.
But economists fear it will be driven even higher in the coming months, up to 4 per cent or more, by the VAT increase after New Year and rocketing oil prices.
