http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/226056/Q-A-How-the-privacy-scandal-at-the-News-of-the-World-has-unfolded
Q Why has this come to light now?
A ...In September 2010, a New York Times article suggested hacking was widespread at the NoW with former reporter Sean Hoare one of the sources for the allegations.

After an internal inquiry Edmondson was sacked and a file sent to Scotland Yard which announced a new investigation would leave “no stone unturned”.

Q How will this affect the Coalition?
A Phone hacking is a practice MPs of all sides are keen to clamp down on, not least because they appear to be major targets, but Liberal Democrats are particularly hostile to any activity which compromises privacy in this way.
