A hacking group named TeamPoison claimed responsibility for the cyber-attack and said it was made in protest at extradition laws. The group uploaded a recording on YouTube apparently consisting of a phone conversation between Met police anti-terrorist hotline staff, and two recordings of prank calls it made to the hotline.

The UK’s fragile economic recovery has suffered a jolt after figures revealed a sharp fall in exports to countries outside Europe.
In a sign of more pressure on the UK’s first quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP), the trade deficit on goods and services rose to £3.4bn in February, up from £2.5bn the previous month and bigger than the £2bn expected by the City.

Google has reported strong first-quarter earnings, up 60% year-on-year to $2.89bn (£1.81bn), with gross revenues also up, by 24%, to $10.65bn, and has announced a two-for-one stock split that will effectively act as a one-off dividend for existing shareholders, while retaining the co-founders' control of voting stock.

Shares in Nokia plunged by 14% on Wednesday after it warned it expects to lose money for the first six months of this year, blaming strong competition for smartphone sales, "particularly in India, the Middle East, Africa and China", among other factors.
