President Obama will nominate Janet L. Yellen as chairwoman of the Federal Reserve on Wednesday, White House officials said Tuesday night, ending an unusually prolonged and public search to fill one of the most important economic policy-making jobs in the world.

The Nobel Prize in chemistry has gone to three scientists who "took the chemical experiment into cyberspace". Michael Levitt, a British-US citizen of Stanford University; US-Austrian Martin Karplus of Strasbourg University; and US-Israeli Arieh Warshel of the University of Southern California will share the prize. The trio devised computer simulations to understand chemical processes.

On Monday, the firm announced a landmark deal to sell 31 of its A350 planes to Japan Airlines (JAL), in a deal worth $9.5bn (￡5.9bn) at list prices.
