The 2014 Winter Paralympics have been opened by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a spectacular ceremony.
The ceremony at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi was themed Breaking the Ice and featured music, dance, special effects and fireworks.

Japan's government said Bitcoin is not a currency but that some transactions using the virtual unit should be taxed... Japan also said banks cannot provide bitcoin as a product to customers.
The government is trying to determine the total volume and value of bitcoins in circulation around the world.

Boeing Checks 787s’ Wings for Cracks on Mitsubishi Notice - Bloomberg

Boeing Co. (BA) is checking for hairline wing cracks on some 787 Dreamliners in production after supplier Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. alerted the planemaker about possible risks to the aircraft.
Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy changed its manufacturing process, possibly leading to cracks in a section of a wing rib, Marc Birtel, a Boeing spokesman, said today by e-mail. He said “about 40 Dreamliners” were affected.
