President Hollande declared three days of national mourning today and promised “merciless” retribution against the Islamic State terrorist group after multiple shooting and bombing assaults in Paris last night that left at least 128 dead and up to 20 critically wounded.

Belgian authorities have arrested several suspects following yesterday's Paris terror attacks after a car seen near one of the murder scenes was intercepted crossing the border.
Federal prosecutors in Brussels confirmed that a car with Belgian number plates had been seen close to the Bataclan theatre on Friday night, scene of the worst bloodshed.
Gatwick Airport's north terminal has been evacuated after a suspect package sparked a security alert.
The evacuation happened at around 10am and passengers were reportedly told to stay away from glass windows after the alarm was raised.

The UK market continued to slide, to a six week low, having dropped 1.9% in the previous session.
The FTSE 100 index closed down a further 60.40 points, or 0.98%, at 6,118.28.
