Companies slow to disclose financial costs of climate change: report - Reuters

U.S. and European companies in polluting industries rarely disclose the financial risks they face related to climate change even though a global task force called on them to do so two years ago, Moody’s Investors Service said in a report on Monday... Though 80 percent of the companies in the Moody’s sample said climate change was affecting strategic decisions, just two of the 28 linked their climate projections with an effect on cash flows and balance sheets, the report said.

Four dead in Bangladesh riot over Facebook post - CNN

Four people were killed Sunday when Bangladesh police fired on a crowd after clashes erupted over a Facebook post that angered Muslims.
Thousands of people took to the streets in the town of Borhanuddin, in Bangladesh's southern Bhola district, to protest the post that allegedly criticized the Prophet Muhammad... The offending post was published Friday from the account of a 25-year-old Hindu man in the area, said Shafin Mohammed, additional superintendent of police in Bhola.
The man had told police his Facebook account was hacked.

Indian students wear boxes on their heads to prevent cheating - CNN

The Bhagat Pre-University College in Haveri, in India's southwestern Karnataka state, implemented a trial run of the new measure last Wednesday, according to school management head M.B. Sateesh.
A staff member photographed the students sitting in neat rows, their heads obscured by cardboard boxes.
The front of the boxes had been cut out, allowing students to see their desks and exam sheets but restricting their vision, similar to blinkers used on a horse.

Former Google vice president Yoky Matsuoka joins Panasonic executive team | The Japan Times

Panasonic Corp. said Thursday it had appointed Yoky Matsuoka, Google LLC’s former vice president and an expert on software and robotics, as a fellow with the electronics maker’s executive team, tasking her to drive innovation... She will be based in Silicon Valley, the company added. Matsuoka formerly led Google’s smart home division, known as Google Nest, as chief technical officer, and worked for Apple Inc.
The appointment of Matsuoka, effective Thursday, is the latest in Panasonic’s efforts to bring in diverse personnel as it hopes to shift from its traditional business model based on hardware sales.

China Cancels Release of Tarantino's 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' | Hollywood Reporter

The critically acclaimed movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, had been approved for release in China on Oct. 25, but regulators have abruptly reversed course... But the story swirling through the executive ranks of China's film industry Friday was that the decision stemmed from Tarantino's somewhat controversial portrayal of martial arts hero Bruce Lee, the only character of Chinese descent in the movie. Friends and family of the late Lee have blasted the director for the depiction, saying the real-life action star didn't behave as he's portrayed in the film.
According to sources close to Bona and China's Film Bureau, Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, made a direct appeal to China’s National Film Administration, asking that it demand changes to her father's portrayal.
