Turkey raises rates to halt lira’s slide - FT.com

Turkey’s central bank’s moved aggressively on Tuesday to increase interest rates to tackle rising inflation and a sharp fall in the value of the lira.
Despite warnings from Recep Tayyip Erdogan, prime minister, that he would hold the central bank to account for any impact a rate rise would have on growth, the bank more than doubled the benchmark weekly repo rate from 4.5 per cent to 10 per cent and raised the top rate from 7.75 per cent to 12 per cent.

Syrian Refugees To Be Taken In By Britain

Britain is to take in some of the most vulnerable refugees from the Syrian civil war, the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has announced.
In a deal struck within Government, refuge will be provided for some of those most traumatised by the crisis, such as vulnerable women or children.

Reporter admits he tried to hack scores of celebrities - Telegraph

A News of the World reporter, who has admitted phone hacking, on Tuesday described how he systematically targeted scores of celebrities and public figures in a desperate search for exclusive stories... Among those he targeted was entertainer Cilla Black, actresses Jenny Seagrove and Amanda Burton, actors Rhys Ifans and Robbie Coltrane and singer James Blunt.

Rovio has denied the report that its popular mobile franchise Angry Birds was utilized as a tool by government spy agencies, including the US National Security Agency and UK's Government Communications Headquarters.
