Currency crisis at Chinese banks 'could trigger global meltdown’ - Telegraph

The growing problems in the Chinese banking system could spill over into a wider financial crisis, one of the most respected analysts of China’s lenders has warned.
Charlene Chu, a former senior analyst at Fitch in Beijing and now the head of Asian research at Autonomous Research, said the rapid expansion of foreign-currency borrowing meant a crisis in China’s financial system was becoming a bigger risk for international banks.

At least 14 dead after Indonesian volcano erupts | euronews

More than a dozen people have reportedly been killed, after a volcano erupted on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. A thick cloud of ash spewed into the air, engulfing people in a nearby village.
The 2,460 metre-high Mount Sinabung had been dormant for four centuries. But it has become increasingly active in recent months and the volcano has been put on its highest alert status.

Amanda Knox could face detention in tough US jail - Telegraph

Amanda Knox faces being incarcerated in a grim federal prison five miles from her parents' house for the duration of any extradition battle between the US and Italy, the Telegraph can reveal.
If Italy makes an extradition request, and the case is argued in US courts, she would be detained by US Marshals and sent to Seatac federal detention centre.
