Dyson launches “near silent” fan - Absolute Gadget

More famous for its stunning range of vacuum cleaners, Dyson has launched updated versions of its bladeless fans it claims are 75 per cent quieter that its predecessors.
The fan uses a device to get rid of tones in the 1000Hz range that is similar to the noise frequency of a mosquito. Engineers at the company said this frequency was the one that irritated users of previous models so their aim was to make this particular noise “totally inaudible”.

BBC Three will close as a TV channel in 2015 - Telegraph

BBC Three is set to become a "new and innovative online service" from autumn 2015 in cost-cutting plans announced by the BBC.
The plans, which will mean that license payers will not be able to access the comedy channel on their TVs alone, will have to be approved by the BBC Trust in order to go through.

An article on Jan. 20, 1853, recounting the story of Solomon Northup, whose memoir “12 Years a Slave” became a movie 160 years later that won the best picture Oscar at the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday night, misspelled his surname as Northrop. And the headline misspelled it as Northrup. The errors came to light on Monday after a Twitter user pointed out the article in The Times archives. (The errors notwithstanding, The Times described the article as “a more complete and authentic record than has yet appeared.”)
