The new boss of Volkswagen has pledged to win back the trust of customers in the wake of the emissions-rigging scandal.
Matthias Mueller was parachuted into the top seat at the German car giant just two days after the resignation of chief executive Martin Winterkorn.

Last Briton at Guantánamo to be released - FT.com

Shaker Aamer, the last Briton to be incarcerated without trial at Guantánamo Bay, is to be released and returned to the UK.
Mr Aamer has been detained at the US military detention facility, because of his alleged connections to al-Qaeda, since 2002. He has never been charged with any crime.
