Starbucks wins, Fiat loses in EU tax fights - Reuters

Starbucks won its fight on Tuesday against an EU demand to pay up to 30 million euros ($33 million) in Dutch back taxes, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles lost its challenge against an order to stump up a similar amount to Luxembourg.
Both cases were part of European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager’s crackdown on unlawful tax breaks offered by EU countries to multinationals, which has also extended to Apple’s Irish deal and Amazon’s Luxembourg deal, among others.

Police Tesla runs out of battery during high-speed pursuit in California | FOX31 Denver

A Tesla electric patrol car by the Fremont, California police department ran low on electricity in the middle of a pursuit, after the department said someone forgot to plug the vehicle into a charger.
According to officials, the officer was pursuing a vehicle headed down to the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area when the car began to run low on battery power.
“Just slowed down to six miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec,” the officer said, according to police radio transmissions.

Australian capital legalizes recreational marijuana

The Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly voted on Wednesday to legalize possession by adults of up to 50 grams (1.8 ounces) of dried marijuana and cultivation of two marijuana plants beginning Jan. 31.
The assembly is the local government of Canberra, the national capital with a population of 400,000.
The law requires that adults not use marijuana near children and to store it out of their reach. Owners cannot sell or supply their marijuana to anyone else. Households are limited to growing no more than four plants, regardless of the number of occupants.

A Silver Spitfire attempting to complete the wartime aircraft's first ever circumnavigation of the globe was nearly forced to abandon its mission in Russia after delayed bank payments delayed them from leaving the country... The team were under extra time-sensitive pressure as the project’s two pilots, Ian Smith from Lincolnshire and Matt Jones, 45, from Exeter had to leave Russia as soon as possible as they needed to return to the UK for personal reasons.

Naomi Osaka: Comedy duo 'A Masso' apologise for 'bleach' comments - BBC Sport

A Japanese comedy duo have apologised after they reportedly said Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka "needed some bleach" during a live event... The duo, known as 'A Masso', also reportedly said "she is too sunburned".
Their management company, Watanabe Entertainment, says they have been severely warned following the remarks.
