Mark Duggan family reacts with fury to inquest verdict of lawful killing | theguardian.com

The family of Mark Duggan, whose death sparked the worst riots in modern British history, reacted with fury when an inquest jury ruled on Wednesday that police acted lawfully when they shot him, even though he had not been carrying a gun when he was killed.
By a majority of eight to two, the jury ruled that the 2011 shooting was lawful. The jury said they were sure, by the same eight-to-two majority, that Duggan did not have a weapon in his hands when police surrounded him. By a majority, the jury concluded he "threw" the gun from a cab he was travelling in when armed officers forced it to stop.

A US military helicopter crashed in the Atlantic tonight – the second to come down in as many days. The Navy chopper went down off the coast of Norfolk, Virginia.
It came less than a 24 hours after a Pave Hawk crashed in Norfolk on the east coast of England, killing four crew members.

Cyberbullying: increasing number of children suffering, says ChildLine | theguardian.com

The number of children suffering at the hands of cyberbullies has sharply increased, with victims often left in despair and struggling to cope, according to ChildLine.
The charity saw 4,507 cases of cyberbullying in 2012-13, up from 2,410 in 2011-12, with an 87% rise in contacts about online bullying, a 41% increase in contacts about self-harm and a 33% increase in young people feeling suicidal.

Japanese police have launched a nationwide manhunt for a rape suspect who escaped south of Tokyo.
More than 4,000 officers have been mobilised in the search for 20-year-old Yuta Sugimoto.
The suspect is reported to have escaped after giving his guard the slip during a visit to the prosecutors' office in Kawasaki for a meeting with his lawyer.

Hundreds of people in Japan say they have fallen ill after eating frozen food that may have been contaminated with pesticide.
Maruha Nichiro Holdings announced last week that it was recalling products after some were found to contain high levels of malathion.
The Health Ministry said at least 556 people had reported symptoms like diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach pain.
