Nissan to Take $2.2 Billion Stake in Scandal-Hit Mitsubishi Motors - WSJ

Nissan Motor Co. said Thursday that it would bet more than $2 billion that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. can recover from a scandal involving falsified fuel-economy data.
In return, Nissan will get a controlling 34% stake in the struggling auto maker that has admitted to manipulating data to inflate mileage results for some of its cars.

Toshiba Reports $4.4 Billion Net Loss - WSJ

Toshiba Corp. reported a net loss for the recently ended fiscal year of \483.2 billion ($4.4 billion)—more than 10 times its year-earlier loss—due to large-scale restructuring following its admission it had overstated profits over several years.

Sharp posts huge losses ahead of takeover - BBC News

Japanese electronics giant Sharp posted a huge loss in its last annual earnings before being taken over by Foxconn later in the year.
The struggling company announced an operating loss of 162bn yen ($1.5bn) for the fiscal year ending March 2016.

Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries plans to change its name to Subaru Corporation in an effort to bolster the image and recognition of its automotive brand.
In addition to building Subaru cars, Fuji Heavy Industries also builds airplanes, helicopters and commercial vehicles.

Yukio Ninagawa, masterful director of Shakespeare, dies aged 80 | The Guardian

Yukio Ninagawa, the world-renowned Japanese stage director known for his adaptations of Shakespeare, has died at a Tokyo hospital. He was 80.
Ninagawa debuted as a director in 1969 and gained international fame at the 1985 Edinburgh festival when he directed a samurai-style Macbeth in which the actors performed in Japanese kimono on a stage with a giant Buddhist altar.
