The fire department in Naha City, the prefectural capital, received an emergency call about a fire shortly after 2:40 a.m. on Thursday... They say the fire is abating more than seven hours after it started, but the Hoshin Gate is still burning.
Firefighters who rushed to the site reported flames rising from the main hall. The fire later spread to the north and south halls.

Japanese Justice Minister Katsuyuki Kawai resigned on Thursday following media reports of election irregularities by his wife, who is a ruling party lawmaker, becoming the second cabinet minister to step down in less than a week.

Japan beer exports to South Korea down 99.9% over boycott - CNA

Exports of beer from Japan to South Korea fell 99.9 percent year-on-year in September, Japan's finance ministry said Wednesday (Oct 30), as a boycott spurred by a bilateral dispute drags on... The countries have implemented retaliatory trade restrictions, and in South Korea citizens have called for a boycott of Japanese goods.
Japanese beer had long been a local favourite, topping the import tables since 2010. But in August it fell to 13th place.

These 17 iPhone apps are malware-infested, delete them immediately

Researchers at the mobile security company, Wandera, singled out 17 apps listed on Apple's App Store as malicious in a new report published on Thursday, Oct. 24. The firm advised iPhone users to delete the apps immediately as they were found to contain Trojan malware.
All of the listed apps belonged to the same developer but varied in nature... The term "Trojan" malware derives its name from the ancient Greek tale about soldiers sneaking through the gates of Troy by hiding inside a wooden horse. Like the Greek soldiers, some malware can slip into your device through seemingly harmless apps that you have installed.

The livestream, broadcast over Japanese video-sharing service Niconico under the title “Let’s Go to Snowy Mt Fuji”, showed the climber’s point of view as he ascended the summit on Monday.
In a clip posted to social media, he is heard repeatedly complaining about his cold fingers, saying: “My fingers are killing me. But I have to operate my smartphone. I should have brought a hot pack.”
...He then says, “Wait, I’m slipping,” as the sound of him sliding can be heard on the video.
The climber is seen slipping down the mountain with his hiking sticks hurtling away, before the footage ends abruptly.
