Japan crown prince 'approves' of daughter's plan to marry but says financial issue must be resolved | The Japan Times

Crown Prince Akishino, the younger brother of Emperor Naruhito, has said he "approves" of his daughter Princess Mako marrying her university boyfriend, Kei Komuro, but reiterated that Komuro's mother must first solve an ongoing financial dispute.
"I mean, I approve of them getting married. The Constitution says marriage shall be based only on the mutual consent of both sexes. If that is what they really want, then I think that is something I need to respect as a parent," the crown prince told a news conference in Tokyo held ahead of his 55th birthday on Monday.

Tokyo Stock Exchange Inc. President and CEO Koichiro Miyahara resigned on Monday to take responsibility for a system failure in October that caused an unprecedented full-day trading suspension at the bourse.
His resignation was announced just after Japan's financial watchdog issued a business improvement order to Tokyo Stock Exchange and its parent company.

Life-size moving Gundam statue unveiled to media in Yokohama | The Japan Times

An 18-meter life-size moving statue of Gundam based on the giant robot featured in the science fiction animation series was unveiled to the media Monday in Yokohama, prior to the opening next month of the Gundam Factory Yokohama complex.
The cultural attraction, where the new statue, which has more than 20 moving parts, was built, will open Dec. 19, after the 40th anniversary of the broadcasting of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” TV series was marked last year.
Visitors can climb to observation decks from 15 meters to 18 meters high on the Gundam-Dock Tower to have close-up views of the anime icon, while the statue will take different poses every half an hour and will be lit up in the evening, according to the complex’s operator, Evolving G Corp.

Japan to test 15,000 people for COVID-19 antibodies by end of year | The Japan Times

The government will test around 15,000 people for novel coronavirus antibodies by the end of the year, to get a better grasp of the infection situation amid a nationwide resurgence in new cases, health minister Norihisa Tamura said Friday.
The testing, the second of its kind since June, will take place in the prefectures of Tokyo and Osaka along with three others, Tamura told a news conference.

Argentine police have searched the house and office of Diego Maradona's doctor, as authorities investigate the death of the soccer great.
Maradona died Wednesday at the age of 60 in a house in the town of Tigre, Argentina.
Police have since seized documents and cell phones from Dr. Leopoldo Luque, according to Argentina's Telam news agency, as a part of a wrongful death investigation carried out by prosecutor John Broyard.
